Be sure to grab your pad and pen because we want to physically write these down — and not use anything electronic to record these.
Weekend Challenge
1. Not Taking Responsibility
Now what I mean by that, is always blaming others. You say, “It’s their fault. They did it.”
There is always an excuse. Take ownership of when you make a mistake. Now, what you will find when you do this is a weight lifted off your shoulders.
The buck stops with you. You are in charge. You are responsible when things go wrong. When someone messes up, it is because they possibly didn’t have the correct training because I did not provide the right training.
I should know what kind of training my staff needs and so should you too.
2. Complacency
I do not like complacency. Now, I operate in the fire extinguisher industry and I have for 30+ years. It has made me have gray hair!
It is an old fashioned business, but done with a modern twist. What do our competitors do? They complain about how we do it.
They say that we are ruining things because we have combined the two. We have lowered our pricing which allows us to be able to sell more and at the end of 5 years, customers can replace their extinguishers without it costing an arm and a leg.
Do our competitors agree with that? No — because they don’t like to change. They are complacent. Is that you? Are you a stick in the mud?
Wise up my friend – get modern. Stop complaining about your competitors and get with the times.
Don’t be complacent.
3. Blaming Competitors For Your Failings
Cut it out. It is not them. They are a competitor in your eyes, but they are a colleague in the same industry in their eyes.
If you start looking them as a colleague in stead of someone who is there to steal your business, you might be able to speak with them and get some very useful knowledge.
Now this can be scary, because you might think that by speaking to them, they will tell you to take a flying leap and that they won’t want to talk to you.
It has been proven that this will not happen. They want to talk to you because you understand them better than anyone else.
Why blame competitors? It is simply because you don’t want to change.
They have customers and you have customers. Your customers like you — just modernize a little bit.
4. Not Completing Things Before You Decide They Don’t Work
Have you ever taken a training course that is long and after you tried it, you think, this is boring. Then after a while someone asks you how it went and you have to say that you never finished it?
it is because you did not put the effort in. You need to realize that is the problem with this.
The reason you bought it is because it is a good system and it works. Did you give it a chance and longer than a week to work?
Stop complaining about it and give it a chance to work before you kill it!
5. Comparing Yourself to Others
That is the path to ruin. There are people in the world who do everything.
For example — podcasters. I am a baby podcaster compared to all the big business podcasters out there.
Do I compare myself to them? No. I am not Pat Flynn. I want to be me. I can learn from him by listening to him and use his suggestions.
I will never compare myself to others in m field.
6. Controlling Everything and Not Delegating
Stop doing that. You are not a control freak. When you started, you were hopeless. You have spent years getting to where you are. Do you need people to help? Yes you do.
But if you tell people what you want to get done, that is not delegating. That is you telling people how to do something.
Give them a chance to learn. Tell them what you want accomplished and see if they can do that. Now, that is delegating.
You hire people because they impressed you and were good enouogh for you to hire.
Just stick to what you are good at and then delegate everything else.
Once you start doing these things, a huge weight will be lifted off your shoulders and you will find the new you.
Your business will improve and you will feel like a new person!
This challenge will definitely help both your health and your business — so get on to it. Talk with you on Monday.
