Now most of us are working hard, doing what Michael Gerber of what E-Myth would say, doing it, doing it, doing it. But we don’t have time for anything else.
And I feel that it is my mission to show you what is possible. Business, Your business life does not have to be like that.
People go on about work life balance and all that. Sounds boring, sounds wishy washy to me. But there is a work life balance thing. But I prefer to explain it as you, by getting back your time. Winning back your freedom.
[player]
When your staff, yeah I’ll get on to the title in a minute, just hear me out for a sec. when your staff go home at the end of the day on Friday, and they finish, say at 5’o clock and they go home, they come back on Monday.
They don’t have to think about work. So why, why should you still be there working when they go home? Why should you have to take stuff home? Why should you have to come in on Saturday?
Why should you have to, on Sunday, when the kids go down at the park, just stay in and just finish off some work? Why should that be? Why can’t you take time off to do what you want when you want it?
And of course you can still work hard. You can still work the hours. But wouldn’t it be great to have the freedom? The choice? That’s what I show you. And so follow me because I’ve done that. I’ve done that in fact.
Back to the Why
But anyway back to the why. So when one of the concepts of this to get you into a new thought pattern, a new way of thinking to release yourself from being tied or prisoner to your business is having a why. That means why am I doing this?
Or for the business, why are we doing this? And this actually forms question number 1 of my concept. The 5 questions. Now these are the questions every small business owner must be able to answer to have a truly successful business.
And it is Why, How, When, Who, What. I’ll gradually explain more of these. As the life goes on, you can just contact me and ask me if how this could apply to you.
In fact you can get, you know I go about my free calls, you can just go to www.MarketingforOwners.com/freetime. Grab, just book in on my calendar. Grab a free no obligation call, I don’t try to tell you anything. Promise. Unless you want to give me money.
But it’s free, and I can explain how this can help your business. Fully confidential, it’s not recorded. In fact, actually it can be recorded if you want it to be recorded. Up to you. But anyway the why.
You Need to Have a Reason
So you need to have a reason. Hopefully you are not in business just to have a job. You can get job anywhere. You can go and work for someone else. Why on earth would you have your own business that is difficult, that ties you down, that stresses you out, why would you have that?
When you can go and work for someone else. And just go home at the end of the week. And not think about all that stuff, and not have those staff problems, not have those supplier problems. Not have that difficult customer who’s so demanding, and then wants the money back. Yeah.
So you have a bigger reason. Now you may have forgotten that. So we need to get you back into thinking about it. Remember why.
So I am going to give the best, one of the best examples over why is Toms Shoes.
But he was in Argentina, and he simply saw kids had no shoes. They can’t afford them, they are very very poor. There’s a great divide between rich and poor in Argentina, as in many other countries. And he thought it was awful.
So he decided to set up a shoe company and every pair of shoes that is bought, they give a pair to a child in Argentina. And they have donated millions of them.
This is a success, a roaring success. Absolutely fabulous business, but the reason he’s in it is not to make money.
He is in it to do good, to do his bit in the world. That’s why, now the fact he makes money alongside, fantastic. But that’s now why he’s in it. That’s a byproduct.
You one day, you probably, when you set up your business, or you want to set up, you lay awake at bed, thinking about this.
Thinking about it and you had this massive idea of why you need to setup a business because you could do it better. What you could do, and how it work out.
Now of course, then you did it and business got in the way, it happens to all of us, certainly happened to me. Gets in the way and then all the hassle in the baggage comes with it. And you, you start to forget why you started in the first place.
However if you can get back to that and get more excited, then you can pass this on to your staff. So that your staff know what you’re trying to achieve. The bigger picture.
Now I know you are not trying to put shoes on the feet of Argentinian children, I know you are not trying to create world peace, or to save the planet. But there’s a reason for it.
Make a Difference
You wanted to do something differently in your trade. You thought you could make a difference to your customers. You could provide a better solution then what’s out there. Whatever it is. So, explain this to your staff.
Explain it, until your staff buy in to the same story. Because then, for them it’s no longer, it’s no longer a job, it’s more of a mission.
Now yeah, I know I am not going to get over the topping all wishy washy. But it is, it’s more of a reason for being raison d’être.
So that’s the French, whoever is transcribing this, that’s the French by the way, raison d’être. It’s not the type of Sultana. So try that.
Get it Across to Your Customers
Now once you’ve got your staff on board, now you can get this across to your customers, your potential customers, you can explain. So instead of explaining, instead of trying to sell them a service or a product, you can sell them a concept of why this exists.
And it doesn’t matter how simple or silly you think it sounds, if you get it across with passion, with gusto in the right way and the right message, your customers will have a reason for buying from you, and not for buying from your competitors.
So that is why it is important to have your customers understand your “Why”. And trust me, this, once you get this, this is the start of a whole new life.
Your staff suddenly are no longer staff. They are working colleagues who are in it with you. They are your friends. Your customers are no longer customers, they are in it with you. They are on the same path, on the same mission. You can even inspire them in their business. See how this follows? And then it suddenly not such a boring job and it’s not so hard. Because then you’ve got a reason for going to work. Good, eh?
