I have had a few occasionally say to me, ‘Jon! I am desperate. What can I do now?’ so today, this is the weekend challenge and I want to give you some new ideas, and today it’s going to be quick stuff.

Weekend Challenge
#1 Phone Your Top 10 Clients: You can phone more. I am just going to say 10. I don’t care who they are. But you should know who your top ones are.
They really like you because they buy lots and they buy often. And ask each one if they know someone else who would appreciate what service you give and the products you sell and could give them the name and the number and would it be okay to mention them as an introduction when you call them.
You will be surprised how couple of these people will say, ‘No. Don’t know anyone.’ But you will be amazed and what if two say, ‘Yeah.’ I tell you what, phone Jeff, phone Greg, phone Mary.
Or in one of our other departments or probably do this in another office. Here’s a number. Yeah, tell him I sent you.’ Isn’t that easy? Imagine.
And if you’re scared of phoning people, ask somebody else in your business to do it. It’s not all you. You have others. You have talented people. No doubt.
#2 Change Something: Change something in your business, change the website, change an offer, add a new product or something like that. Just do something differently and then tell people.
Now the reason I say this, so it’s not the actual change. It’s the excuse for communicating. You should have a list of all of your customers’ email addresses, because this is the 21st century after all.
You should have it in an email service provider like Aweber or Mail chimp because that’s the way to send them out. So change something.
Say we’ve added a new product, come and have a look. We’ve refreshed the website. We’ve changed the reception in our office, what do you think? We’ve got a new logo. We’ve updated the signs on our vans and trucks.
Then send an email out to everyone and say exactly that. ‘Hey just wanted to let you know, we’ve had a little bit of a change. What do you think? If you want to have a look or also while you’re at it, have a look at our website, have a look at our product. Oh, did you know, we’ve got an offer on instant email, you can do this. It’s going to take you 10 minutes.’
If you want something changed, go to Fiverr (www.fiverr.com), find something, get it done. You could say, ‘We’ve changed our email.’ We’ve changed, somebody has moved the desk over from the right hand side to the left. We’ve changed our biscuits supplier. Honestly.
Anything, just as an excuse to contact everyone in one go and say, ‘Oh, by the way, got little offer on this. Just Today.’ You will get orders. Instantly. Promise.
#3 Give a Discount Off Someone’s Next Order: So whenever you deliver your goods, your services or an invoice, you must do something like this to, you must somehow contact a customer, somehow.
Say have a little coupon. Print it out. Go to Vista Print (www.VistaPrint.com), or Solo press (www.Solopress.com), or just do it yourself on Canva (www.canva.com), something simple but make it look professional.
Please, probably best to go to a cheap printer, plenty of those. Just look up leaflet printers, really cheap online.
Have it say for instance, ‘Get a discount off your next order in the next 3 days.’ We do something with ours. We’d say, ‘Did you forget something? Just in case you forgot to order anything, come and have a look back on the website and if you did, we give you a free delivery.
As long as you don’t already give free delivery, free delivery of the co, as long as this is used in the next 3 days. People will order.
And you think, ‘Oh, hang on those people have already ordered. They’ve bought everything they want.’ Easy.
You will be surprised. You may be thinking, ‘Oh if they are going to order, they were going to order again any way.’ Were they? Were they going to order it now? Within 3 days? This stuff works.
#4 Add a Profitable Upsell to Each Order: Remember the old McDonald’s upsell lingo — “do you want fries with that?”
What about yourself? So for instance in our fire safety business, if someone orders fire extinguishers we say, ‘Would you like the signs that fix on the wall above them because the fire brigade, the fire service need you to have those, a fire extinguisher sign.’
Fire extinguisher may cost 30 pounds, the sign is an extra 3 pounds. And it’s a nice little earner. Quite often it, and when I say quite often, about 90% of the time, the people will say, ‘Yeah, okay.’ Easy.
We’ve just boosted the sale by 10% and the profits by more because the up sale bit is more profitable. Okay, you must be able to think of something. Surely. Can’t you? So for instance, what do you do?
Are you doing landscape gardening? When you’re doing the landscape gardening, you could. I don’t know, you can think of something. You can do the driveway the, you know jet wash it or something like that in addition as an additional charge.
While you’re here, but you do it for half price. If you’re doing carpet cleaning, you’ll do an extra something for half price. Whilst you are there, etc. you can figure it out.
#5 Call the Neighbors of Your Top Clients: It doesn’t have to be you, it could be your salesperson if you have them or your rep, or your delivery person.
Just knock, when you deliver anything, knock on next door, pop in next door and say, ‘By the way, we supply to so and so, and we’ve been supplying them for ages. They love it.
You can speak to Mike or Mary’ or whoever. And say, ‘Can I just give, give you a little offer? Because as you are a friend of them, we can give you 10% off and here’s a leaflet.’
So obviously have a little leaflet or something to give somewhere, little letter or ‘Here’s a letter from our boss, for you.’ Just hand it out. Just purely because you are their neighbor. Then when you go away, they can casually ask that person next door.
They say, ‘Hey, I had someone pop in, do you really buy their stuff? Are they any good?’ imagine how that works. Again very quick sales.
#6 Find a Partner and Swap Offers: What that means is say for example, we are a local fire extinguisher supplier. We probably don’t sell security alarms, something like that for businesses.
So why don’t we go and visit a security alarm company who deals with businesses, who does not sell fire extinguishers and say, Have you got an offer for people, if you give us a leaflet, print up a leaflet with an offer, just for our customers and have it printed with our, say this is just for Jon’s customers.
We will do the same for you. We will give out all of your leaflets to every customer of ours. And in exchange, can you give them out to yours?
So you both get to reach a new audience that is related. You make a friend because you can do this over and over. And you also add extra value to your customers because you get them a discount. How easy is that?
Can you seriously, not do any of those? And make instant money very quickly. Don’t overthink any of these. These all work and what if they cost you, maybe a couple of leaflets? Some of them might have cost you a phone call. That’s it.
So that’s my weekend challenge for you. Please next week, don’t write in and say, ‘oh how can I make money?’ Because I would say, ‘listen to that.’
It’s easier than you think, honestly. And it just takes a bit of effort and like I said, doesn’t have to be you. It can be one of your staff who can do this. Then do this regularly.
Find what works. Do it again and again and again and perfect it. You’ll have a great life and you’ll make more money. Simple as that. Have yourself a new, a fantastic weekend. I’ll see you on Monday.
