That’s another shocking revelation for all of us. Yes — your success — it won’t happen overnight. This is a marathon not a sprint. Most people, including myself, are impatient. You are trying to grow your business.
Here I come along with this site Marketing for Owners, and tell you to do this and to do that to grow your business, and BOOM — your business is up and running and going great.
Well, I’ll be honest. It’s going to take a little longer than that. Trust me. I’ve been working at this for years. See all this gray hair I have? That tells you how long I’ve been doing this! I’ve been working a long time and I’ve had that advantage of time to learn.
I’ve made a lot of mistakes, but I’ve also gotten a lot of things right. I have stood on the shoulders of giants and learned from them. The one thing that I have learned more than anything though is this — it’s just going to take time.

Anything that is a quick fix is just not going to happen. There is no magic pill. There is no silver bullet. Anything you read is going to tempt you in to buying something that promises it’s going to do wonders for you overnight.
My systems will take time. The important thing to know is that once you set them up, you will look back and think, “Why did I not do that before? Why did I not start earlier?” Once you start building your e-mail list, you will think, “Why didn’t I do that before?” But, as long as you start, you are going to make a progress.
My favorite phrase is rather simple. It’s so simple and ordinary, that I am embarrassed to even tell you what it is. Ready for it?
Slow and steady wins the race.
The reason I love this quote is because in my experience through everything I have tried, it’s the things that I have built up slowly and gradually that have stuck.
Anything that works right now that I can do today, will also start working tomorrow, BUT sooner or later it may not work. The things I work on gradually — they are going to stick. They are going to be built properly, thoroughly, and systematized properly.
This is the same whether it’s in your marketing, in systematization or in anything. I just want you to realize that it will not happen overnight. However, to encourage yourself and to keep yourself going, you need to congratulate yourself every now and again.
Tuesday Toolbox Tip
Today, I am going to recommend the tool that I use and in fact, quite a few of my staff use as well. It’s called iDoneThis.
It is free. They do have a paid version. I’ve never used the paid version, but thinking I might try it out soon.
When someone pointed this out to me a few years ago, I was sort of skeptical. I didn’t get it. I tried it and really liked it. I have now been using it for a couple of years.
iDoneThis is a way of reminding yourself that you have done things. You sign up. You enter your e-mail address and you set a time for whatever you want to do.
Let’s use me for an example. Let’s say, it’s 10 o’ clock at night. It e-mails me with message that says, “Jon, what did you do today?”
I enter in a list of my achievements, what I did that’s significant. I hit reply and it sends an e-mail back to me. Their online cloud system records that and it saves it for posterity.

“The 71 Ultimate Marketing Tools”
It’s for me. They don’t show it to anyone. This is entirely private, but I can look back at any time and I can find that I did stuff every day even if I take a day off to spend with my kids. That to me is an achievement. I record that, too.
This is a great tool to show you that — yes — you are achieving things. You might not have anyone there to pat you on the back. iDoneThis helps you out with this. You’ve got to realize you achieve things.
Have you ever gotten home at the end of the day and, and say your spouse has said, “How’s your day been?” And, you reply and say, “Ah, I’ve been flat out busy.” And then, they say, “What did you do?”
You think about it for a few seconds and you say, “I don’t know.” But, you know you were busy. You can’t recall anything. This is a way of recording what you did. You need congratulations even if you have to give it to yourself.
