Do you have a morning routine? Now, this episode will be based on our book for this week (which I will tell you more about it in a bit), The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod.
I cannot think of a book that has been published that has had such a profound effect on so many people, including me.
Now, I can assure you, I don’t like getting up in the morning. I don’t like getting up before my day is ready to start, at least I try not to.
Generally, the only way I can get up, is by having my Iphone as my alarm clock on the other side of the room (this is so I will get up and not just hit the snooze button).

When it goes off, I have to get up. I have a morning routine. I used to not have one, but since beginning one, my work has transformed and now I am so much more productive.
These days, I get up around 6:30 a.m., and what I do is go to the kitchen and drink a pint of water, and then I sit down and have some quiet time.
Now, during quiet time, people may meditate or do whatever, but I have some quiet time and just take in some breaths, and that sort of helps to wake myself up.
After waking up, I start thinking about all the things I accomplished yesterday, and then I congratulate myself and give myself a pat on the back for a job well done.
I also think about other things I have been grateful for that worked out well the day before. Following that, I think about all the things I need to consider accomplishing today.
Now, this is the odd thing — you can take it anyway you want to — now with my eyes shut, I try to visualize a couple of major tasks that I want to get accomplished for that day.
I am a professional procrastinator. If anyone ever wants to know how to procrastinate, send me an email. I’ll be sure to help you out with that.
Okay — so here is what I do– I actually picture myself sitting at a computer, where I am writing a post, or something like that. In my mind, I will visualize myself sitting there, writing that post.
Then, after doing this, I try to get some exercise in. I’ve been following John Lee Dumas’s idea of doing your pushups inverted so that when you do them, it makes them slightly tougher.
Sometimes I will go for a long walk along the sea front, or I will do the warm up from Insanity — something like that for about 30 minutes to really get the blood pumping.
Then I get down to work.
Now, the way I work is I use the Pomodoro technique. No — I don’t eat their products because I don’t like tomatoes.
I’ve talked before about Moosty.com, which is a free online timer version. I play that in 25 minute chunks and switch on the focus at will music in the background, so I will work 25 minutes and then take a 5 minute break.
During that 5 minute break, I will go make myself a cup of tea. After the next 25 minutes, I get a 15 minute break and I’ll get up and go make my porridge.
Then I go back and work another 25 minutes work time and another 15 minute work break. I keep going like this with this schedule because it allows me to work and get stuff done.
That is how this stuff works. I have a routine, and you need a routine. Now, my day is starting around about half past seven and because of me starting earlier, my energy and yours will wane throughout the day.
In the old days, I used to sit down in the evenings and do work, but by the time I get to the evening, I’ve got no energy left.
By this time in the afternoon, I’ve gotten bored, I’m kind of spent, and my mind is all mush. I thought, why not do the work first thing in the morning instead of late in the evening?
Book Recommendation
This book is amazing. By following the guidelines in this book and doing it this way, it helps to get your major tasks crossed off your to-do list.
It sounds ridiculous if you are not into all that stuff, but believe me, people I know who are night owls are now morning people.
Read The Miracle Morning. It is not a very long read and Hal is an amazing guy.
He is very young and his story is fascinating. Please read it and let me know what you think. If you are a morning person, drop me an email at info@marketingforowners.com.
I would love to hear how you start your day and what your routine is.
